How to Make More Sales from Your Web Site

Are you happy with the amount of sales you’re making from your web site, or could you stand to sell a few more products?

Check to see if you’ve included the following features:

  • Good, close-up product photos that show detail clearly.
  • Detailed product descriptions.
  • Customer testimonials.
  • Contextual links from informational articles to related product page.
  • Your privacy policy is spelled out: the customer’s personal information is secure.
  • Easy return/exchange methods: a no-cost, no-hassle return policy.
  • Your shipping charges are posted clearly; a potential customer does not have to go through the shopping cart/checkout process before finding out what your shipping charges are.
  • Information about you and your store: company history, policies, background, even if you’re a small, one-person shop. Include a photo of yourself to boost credibility.
  • Site search engine if it’s a large site with many products.
  • Clear, simple navigation.
  • A “Help” FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page.
  • Easy-to-use shopping cart.
  • Your contact information, with email or phone number, is easy to find.
  • Offer discounts, except for unique products, and offer low shipping costs.

Most of these suggestions come from studies that track why people buy, or don’t buy, from web sites. If your sales have been less than what you would like them to be, try adding some of these features. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
